Inference

Students form conclusions based on what is suggested in text, images and real-life situations. They develop an understanding of the importance of going beyond what is given to draw additional conclusions; recognizing plausible and implausible inferences; and understanding the value of drawing inferences in a variety of circumstances. It includes instructional suggestions for teachers (introducing and defining inference, distinguishing between observation and inference, identifying plausible inferences, developing criteria, checking for understanding, and applying independently) and resources for students (introductory activities, data chart, student guide and self-assessment rubric).
