Leadership and strategic planning

Working with The Red Rock Indian Band (RRIB) in two initiatives, the Attendance Project and the Reconnecting Roots: Land-Based Learning Project, to strengthen student belonging, engagement, and success through relational, culturally grounded approaches to education. By strengthening belonging, identity, and relevance through Land-based education, RRIB and TC² aim to address root causes of absenteeism.

Collaboration with the Walpole Island First Nation Board of Education, Elders, educators, language champions, youth, and other community members to lead a comprehensive, evidence-informed analysis of all educational services outlined in the RFP. Our goal is to support a process that strengthens educational sovereignty, enhances coherence across systems, and equips Walpole Island First Nation to act on its educational vision with insight and confidence.

Holodomor Research and Education Consortium

Learning materials and facilitation of professional learning

TC² collaborated with the Holodomor Research and Education Consortium (HREC), a project of the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Alberta and supported financially by the Temerty Foundation, to create a digital collection of historical documents related to the Holodomor. We also created detailed lesson plans that examine human rights atrocities through use of the Holodomor as a historical example, provided professional learning to support educator understanding and ability, and provided marketing and communications actions to increase educators’ and learners’ awareness of the Holodomor.

TC² developed learning kits and in-class programs to engage students and deepen their understanding of the causes, impacts, and stories related to the internment of Japanese Canadians. The Nikkei Internment Memorial Centre (NIMC) is located on the site of “The Orchard” internment camp in New Denver, British Columbia.

TC² is collaborating with MECC to develop new educational materials and professional learning opportunities. Our deliverables include:

  • Enriching the MECC website with robust teaching resources
  • Crafting 25 innovative lessons
  • Designing 44 slide sets for classroom or online use
  • Presenting our collaborative work at conferences
  • Creating enduring resources for MECC team training
  • Conducting engaging face-to-face professional learning sessions

We are grateful for the opportunity to help empower educators and transform learning environments with practical, confident, and dynamic solutions for the educators at MECC, and we look forward to continued collaboration with MECC administration, staff, students, and other key community stakeholders to develop additional education materials and professional learning opportunities.
