Nurturing Quality Thinking through Purposeful Design
Thinking about planning professional learning?
Whether you're building something new or revitalizing an existing program, TC² facilitators can collaborate with your team to design sustained and meaningful professional learning.
Here's an example of a recent collaboration led by one of TC²'s facilitators, Garfield Gini-Newman.
When the Social Studies team at Lake Forest High School set out to design a common Grade 9 course, they were already working toward a clear goal:
To build a strong foundation in knowledge, skills, and civic dispositions that would empower students throughout high school and beyond.
To sharpen that focus, Instructional Director Stephen Dunn invited TC² to collaborate with the team through a professional learning session facilitated by Garfield Gini-Newman. Together, they explored how TC²’s framework for critical, creative, and collaborative thinking could help align curriculum, lessons, and assessments with the kind of quality thinking they wanted to nurture in students.
The result? A compelling throughline that connected world history to civics through a series of rich, inquiry-based questions.
“Garfield supported us in refining and strengthening our existing curriculum, lesson plans, and assessments—bringing greater coherence, alignment, and relevance to every aspect of the course. He also helped us articulate a clear and compelling throughline that connected the study of world history to the study of civics.”
—Stephen Dunn, Instructional Director, Lake Forest High School
Stephen shared that he plans to continue sharing TC² professional learning opportunities with his team, building on the strong foundation they’ve begun.
