Partnership within The Critical Thinking Consortium is available to school districts, schools and other educational organizations. The institutional benefits of a formal relationship are described below. Teachers who are not employees of a Partner group may join TC² as an Individual Member and receive many of the benefits of an institutional partnership.
The TC² model provides a shared language, a coherent and sound approach and comprehensive resources to sustain concerted efforts to promote critical, creative and collaborative thinking within every classroom.
The basic principle of the Consortium is that Partners join to form a network of educators committed to long-term, field-based support. Our approach to sustained and transformative professional learning is to work over time with educational leaders in planning and implementing programs that offer coherent, comprehensive and continuous support for teachers. We work collaboratively with our Partners to build sustainable capacity and create positive synergies.
Partner employees receive free access to three TC² online resource collections containing exemplary teaching ideas:
The over 80 Tools for Thought tutorial lesson plans teach the tools students need to develop competence in thinking, communicating and acting.
The hundreds of Critical Challenges lesson plans that range from primary to senior grades in varied subjects embed critical thinking and inquiry activities into the teaching of content.
Partner employees receive free access to professional learning resources and other materials not available to the general public:
Tips for Teachers include PDF and video resources offering helpful hints and practical strategies on how to implement thinking.
Stories from the Classroom contain written accounts and videos depicting the in-class experiences of teachers and other educators working to support thinking.
Critical Discussions offer helpful professional articles that explore a range of issues related to understanding, implementing and assessing thinking.
A 20% discount on face-to-face presentations and workshops and online sessions that provide comprehensive professional learning support
A 20% discount on Inquiry-pacs licenses for comprehensive online resources, containing detailed teaching instructions, easy-to-use student materials and visual displays for the curriculum in selected grades and jurisdictions
TC²’s team of experienced and highly regarded facilitators have worked with over 175 000 educators across Canada and internationally to plan, offer and evaluate a wide range of ongoing professional learning opportunities. These include long-term programs, individual workshops, conference presentations, study sessions, curriculum development projects and teacher-directed initiatives to deepen and extend thinking in classrooms.
TC² has raised over $3 000 000 from external sources to support current and past projects. Money from these sources has created opportunities and resources for Partner groups to support their teachers.
